White Rose Award presented by The Glatfelter Agency – Linda Davidson
Linda began her career as a high school teacher at Dallastown but made a major career switch into a family–owned civil engineering business 35 years ago. She had a lot of “on the job training,” had excellent mentoring (primarily from mother-in-law, Jody Appell), and found she has a real passion for human resources. Recruiting, hiring, evaluating, and motivating employees draws on those same skills that make teachers good teachers – mainly encouraging others to maximize their potential.
Becoming involved in volunteer initiatives throughout the community has been a significant part of Linda’s entire life, but especially throughout her business career. There is quite a comprehensive list of organizations for which she has been involved, most times in a leadership role including but not limited to The York Hospital, York County Parks, YWCA, United Way, Dollars for Scholars, Leadership York, Downtown, Inc., Agricultural and Industrial Museum, York County Economic Corporation. The common thread is that Linda loves to combine her passions – education, City Revitalization, land preservation – all quality-of-life issues.
Linda feels that she has been guided by a very strong and influential mentor, her mother-in-law, and believes that she has grown professionally, and as a leader of the community beyond her own goals because of the support and encouragement of a wise and wonderful mentor. She enjoys the challenge of finding balance in life, sometimes admitting it is more challenging than other times. At this point, she is a very part time employee, part time volunteer, but is trying to focus on hobbies – which includes playing lots of tennis, playing lots of bridge, bicycling, backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, and enjoying lots of summer days at the beach.
